AURORA

AURORA presents an immersive, drive-thru exhibition titled Area 3 as part of its 2020 AURORA Expanded program. The exhibition has transformed over 100,000 square feet of a parking garage in downtown Dallas into an exhibition showcasing large-scale light, video, and sound installations, as well as performances, by sixteen regional artists. Area 3 is viewable from the safety of attendees’ own cars.

With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dallas’s parking garages and art and culture industry have seen their business cut by over $68 million—with the artists themselves having been among the hardest hit with a tremendous amount of work opportunities lost. Area 3 proudly functions on a shared profit model in an experiment to support local artists and vendors whose income has been affected in the wake of COVID-19. Through this exhibition, as well as our newly initiated AURORA Artist Relief Fund, we are thrilled to be able to support the incredible artists and vendors, with whom AURORA has worked for the last 10 years.

AURORA’s auxiliary program, AURORA Expanded, is a citywide program focused on spotlighting and supporting North Texas artists through a year-round series of site-specific installations, special events and social gatherings. Previous Expanded program events have included educational programs as well as exhibitions and performances held in parallel to the Biennial exhibition to activate additional art spaces throughout Dallas.

In parallel with AURORA Expanded’s Area 3 exhibition, AURORA is also proud to present the 5th  edition of our AURORA Biennial exhibition titled Afterwards was already before. The program will launch with the official AURORA Biennial Opening Presentation (online) on October 28, followed by the opening of Marina Rosenfeld’s Ssalute sound installation and performance on November 6. The program will continue to unfold with artist-created live and online activations through 2021. Visit dallasaurora.com for all biennial event information and registration details.

We look forward to welcoming you for to our current and future AURORA programming!
