Curse Mackey’s second album, Immoral Emporium, is the much-anticipated follow-up to his 2019 solo debut Instant Exorcism. Based in Austin, TX, Curse Mackey is a prolific industrial darkwave performer and visual artist, part of notable industrial bands Pigface and My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, as well as a founder of the legendary/ notorious San Antonio industrial punk band Evil Mothers, who began his career as a DJ and underground event promoter.
Mackey recently debuted material from Immoral Emporiumduring a very well-received SXSW 2022 showcase presented by Post-Punk Online, Rocky Road Touring and Negative Gain Productions.

Curse Mackey’s modern darkwave, electronic act will appeal to fans of contemporary artists such as BootBlacks, Actors, Black Queen, Boy Harsher, and Twin Tribes, while thrusting the classic industrial dance sound well into the future.

Fans of the famed Wax Trax Records roster, Skinny Puppy, Nine Inch Nails, New Order, Clan of Xymox and the like will find a lot to love here. Immoral Emporium is not a nostalgia trip but rather a very contemporary look forward at dark electronic music. Curse emphasizes, “This is a NEW album for modern times, in the here and now, because now is all we really have.”

True to his word, Immoral Emporium pushes the boundaries of genre with a vast dynamic range, from a tortured whisper to a triumphant howl. The first single, “Lacerations,” the album version of the title track off the 2021 Lacerations EP, is a dancefloor stomper with hypnotic vocals, a hard-hitting chorus with wailing synths, and brutal percussion.

The album moves into poppy, more upbeat club territory with the earworm “Dead Fingers Talk,” guaranteed to get everyone moving at your city’s goth/industrial club night. The buildups are big, such as in “Omens And Monuments”, with monstrous synths that bring Immoral Emporium to a goosebump-inducing, cathartic end and leaves the listener looking forward to the future.

Produced by Curse Mackey and Chase Dobson, who also co-produced Instant Exorcism. Curse says, “Working with Chase is a blast; he’s an expert engineer who is willing to try insane experiments to see what happy accidents may occur and we’re very intuitive now working  under remote, unusual, stressful conditions.”

Other contributors include synth wizard Justin McGrath (Nine Inch Nails, Kanga, The Black Queen), as well as MVTANT, an exciting new industrial act from Curse’s birthplace San Antonio, Texas. The album was mastered by Ken Marshall at HiWatt Labs, known for his studio work with Skinny Puppy, Riki, Front Line Assembly, and many others.

Immoral Emporium  is slated for a September 2022 release and will be supported by a full US tour starting in the fall with darkwave legends Clan of Xymox, who Curse was mid-tour with in 2020 when the tour was cut short by the pandemic.

In speaking of its creation and its debut into the world, Mackey says, “This record is a dangerous listen; by the time it reaches the last song, I, as the protagonist, am already essentially dead, my final words on the closing track- as dark as the premise might be- are meant to give hope to the listener, my friends around the world…that you can live to fight another day, knowing you don't have to give in to the fear, pain, and worry. These things will pass and you are not alone."

Curse Mackey’s Immoral Emporium is sure to be a welcome entry into the world of dark synth, post-punk, heavy electronic music.
