Small Brewpub is excited to host a concert with Jacob Metcalf and RF Shannon on our back patio space Thursday, May 31st.
Jacob Metcalf made a quiet splash with his debut album Fjord, a folk record that received warm press in the US, Canada, and UK/Europe, opening up doors in unexpected places. After an exciting and eventful 2017 zig-zagging solo across the continent, Metcalf is nesting back at home in Dallas, Texas, hard at work on studio album number two, lovingly entitled Monitors. Like roping sands, Monitors explores sensory limitations and lens distortion as principal themes across the album's eleven tracks, tiptoeing the highwire somewhere between song and screenplay.
For this Small Brewpub event, Metcalf previews unreleased material from the upcoming album and melodic unfinished drafts to pair with a handful of appetizing antiques revisited from the first album Fjord. This show is also Metcalf's first full band show of 2018.
“Metcalf’s solo debut is exquisite, its beauty both on the surface and further down — his reedy, emotive voice rests atop intricate instrumentation, full of flickering strings, plucked guitars and dry percussion — making songs like the gorgeous title track or Ein Berliner lodge firmly in the mind.” Preston Jones, Star Telegram
Opening the event is Los Angeles based, RF Shannon, which has strong ties and roots in Texas.
