Join us to kickoff the 6th Fort Worth African American Roots Music Festival with a festival eve dance for all ages! You may have learned to dance in squares, lines, and circles in grade school — this event will highlight how central African Americans have been in the history of these traditional dances.

The dances will be taught and called by participants of our pilot African American Dance Caller Pathways Program cohort and accompanied by a live string band lead by fiddlers Isaiah Sibi and Shanice Richards.

Bring a partner, friend, child, or come solo- no experience needed!

African American Dance Caller Pathways connects experienced instructors to a cohort of Black-identified aspiring callers to teach dance calling technique, Black cultural and historical roots of traditional square and contra dancing, and calling in contemporary dance communities. African American Dance Caller. Pathways is sponsored by The Center for Cultural Vibrancy, Country Dance and Song Society, The Rhapsody Project, and Mid-America Arts Alliance.
