THE HATES

TEKUACHE

BUTCH KLOTZ

The Hates were one of the most notorious and uncompromising bands to explode out of the early Houston punk scene. Formed in the late 1970s, they became known for their raw, confrontational sound and unfiltered stage presence, helping define the Gulf Coast’s underground movement.

Fronted by the volatile and charismatic Christian Kidd, The Hates built a reputation on aggressive shows, DIY ethics, and a refusal to play by industry rules. Their music captured the grit and rebellion of Houston’s punk underbelly, earning them a loyal following and cementing their place as pioneers of Texas hardcore. Decades later, The Hates remain a defining name in Houston punk history—loud, unapologetic, and fiercely independent.

Butch Klotz is best known as the longtime frontman of Houston punk mainstays 30footfall, a band that helped define the city’s underground scene with high-energy shows and sharp, anthemic songwriting. As the voice behind decades of gritty, melodic punk, Klotz built a reputation for raw honesty and relentless stage presence.

Beyond the volume and velocity of 30footfall, Klotz’s acoustic solo work reveals a different side of his songwriting. Stripped down to guitar and voice, his solo performances highlight the storytelling and emotional depth that have always powered his music—blending punk spirit with rootsy, introspective melodies. Whether fronting a full band or performing solo, Butch Klotz delivers songs that are heartfelt, unfiltered, and unmistakably Houston.

Tekuache is a Texas-based punk-country-bluegrass outfit known for blending raw punk energy with back-porch Americana grit. Fusing driving rhythms, twangy guitars, and bluegrass instrumentation, the band delivers high-octane performances that feel equal parts honky-tonk throwdown and DIY punk show.

Rooted in Texas tradition but fueled by rebellious spirit, Tekuache bridges the gap between country storytelling and punk attitude—creating a sound that’s loud, fast, and unapologetically authentic.
