Best known for the wildly popular viral video series, “Guy On A Buffalo,” Jomo & The Possum Posse have built a reputation for blending razor-sharp wit, dead-eyed soul, and anti-machismo honky-tonk into something entirely their own.

Led by award-winning songwriter Jomo Edwards — whose lyrics walk the line between sardonic humor and offbeat insight — the band has become a fixture of Texas music and comedy. In 2021, Edwards took home first place in Merlefest’s prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting Contest, further solidifying the band’s reputation for songwriting that’s as sharp as it is unexpected.

Their discography spans four studio albums, most recently Yesterday’s Coffee (2024), produced by Kevin Russell (The Gourds, Shinyribs). Previous releases include Take a Number, Satan (2019), featured on Jack Ingram’s Texas Music Scene; Local Motive (2016), praised for its roots rock swagger and biting wit; and Let’s Ride, Boys (On the Importance of Commas) (2012), produced by Cody Braun of Reckless Kelly and steeped in Western influences. They also released Live at the Highball (2017), an 18-track album that captures the group’s dynamic stage energy, with performances enhanced by video projections — a format the band has continued to explore in other shows.

In addition to Jomo, the band features longtime members Brian Wolfe on Bass, Jes Clifford on guitar, and Charlie Kessenich on drums. The band occasionally features keyboard and steel guitar players from Austin’s rich musician community.
