Alejandro Escovedo’s Echo Dancing is a bold exploration of his past, present, and future. Rather than recording an album of new material, the Texas-born singer-songwriter revisits songs from throughout his remarkable career, completely reimagining them with fresh arrangements and perspectives. Recorded in Italy with musicians Don Antonio and Nicola Peruch, the album transforms familiar songs such as “Bury Me” and “Castañuelas” into something entirely new. For Escovedo, a song is never truly finished—it continues to evolve as the artist does. Echo Dancing is a testament to that belief, using the past as a springboard for discovery and reinvention.
Escovedo’s career has always been defined by fearless musical exploration. From his early days with San Francisco punk pioneers The Nuns and New York’s Judy Nylon band to Austin’s True Believers and his acclaimed solo career, he has consistently pushed beyond genre and expectation. Named Artist of the Decade by No Depression in 1998, Escovedo has spent more than four decades finding new ways to tell his stories. Echo Dancing continues that journey, bringing new life to songs that have shaped his career while embracing the surprises and possibilities of the present. It’s a record about reinvention, collaboration, and the enduring thrill of moving forward.
