The Damn Quails with special guest Gatlin Johnson
The Damn Quails began as a weekly show in 2010 at The Deli in Norman, Oklahoma and have gone on to become a mainstay in the Americana and Red Dirt music scenes. After the release and success of their first single “Fool’s Gold,” off of 2011’s “Down the Hatch,” songwriter Bryon White and company began touring the country heavily. Three studio albums, a live album, 13 years, and millions of miles later, the Quails are still making the rounds and putting smiles on faces across the states. Long-time Quails bassist Caleb Shirtum and Bryon White join an always-rotating roster of great musicians that lend their talents to White’s unique style of Okie songwriting- a show you will never see twice and will always remember. The Damn Quails have supported acts such as Marshall Tucker Band, Whiskey Myers, Cody Jinks, Turnpike Troubadors, The Great Divide, and many more great artists!
Gatlin Johnson isn’t chasing trends – he’s reviving the soul of country music one verse at a time. A modern torchbearer for red dirt country, Gatlin writes songs that feel lived-in and true, with every lyric earned and every melody rooted in raw emotion. His sophomore EP, Only Shot, is a confessional collection born from resilience and reinvention. Raised in church singing faith-filled harmonies alongside his family, Gatlin’s journey took a sharp turn when a college football injury shattered his athletic dreams. With his foot in a cast and a guitar in hand, he revisited a half-written song from high school and discovered that songwriting wasn’t a hobby. It was his calling. A spur-of-the-moment trip to see a show at Billy Bob’s near his hometown of Aledo, TX revealed the power of confessional songwriting and the kind of stage presence that moves people. That night cemented Gatlin’s mantra of “serve the song,” and his resolve to play on that same stage one day. Gatlin’s music blends classic roots with a modern voice. Whether you’re nursing heartbreak or chasing redemption, his songs meet you where you are. Because real country, served fresh, still matters. And somebody’s gotta do it.
