Draft Picks: Space Tan - featuring Whisk & Hex Boyfriend

Each month, the Highball hosts a Sunday residency for an Alamo staff band and other local bands they like. The month of June will be curated by Space Tan!

7p - Whisk is promoting their new EP, The Everything EP, which is streaming on all platforms. Fronted by Emily Gritsman, Whisk channels bubble grunge into their performative rock and roll stylings in Austin between writing and recording sessions.

8p - Space Tan is an indie rock band from Austin, TX. Strong and clean melodies accompanied by bright guitars and psychedelic harmonies set the stage for the band's off the cuff and earnest lyrics, all held together by a driving rhythm section that makes their sound a great mix of classic production with modern sensibilities. 

9p - Hex Boyfriend is an alternative rock band from Austin, Texas. Their sound combines familiar grunge-soaked chords with soaring vocal harmonies and has been described by the Austin Chronicle as “floaty melancholy ... sinister, snarling power-pop.” Their melodramatic lyrics are obscured by memorable melodies. Overall, they are something one would expect to be featured as a backdrop for a film amid the golden-age-of-grunge era. Hex Boyfriend is intentional, unapologetic and will leave you spellbound at first listen.
