While self-described by the Pere Ubu-coined term "avant-garage", it's hard to put a finger on DANA. The controlled chaos of the enduring project, formed by singer/theremin player Madeline Jackson, oscillates between genres.
Offering a marriage of populist rock impulses with Dadaist proclivities, DANA contains multitudes (and curiously no one named Dana). With a live show that's full of mystique and menace, both equal parts seductive and unhinged; DANA puts on a show that's not soon forgotten.
DANA has spent the last four years extensively independently touring North America and appearing at multiple festivals including: Montreal's Taverne Tour (2024), SXSW (2022, 2023, 2024), Austin's Fiesta Destructo (2022, 2023, 2024), Knoxville's Big Ears (2022) and Punk Rock Flea Market (2019, 2024), Punk Flea Market Murfreesboro (2023), NYC's Bands, Bikes & BBQ (2023), Athens' Skate Jam (2021, 2022, 2023, 2025), Minneapolis's Caterwaul (2022), Toronto's Project Nowhere (2025) + multiple Gonerfest afterparties.
In 2025, DANA committed their particular brand of weirdo rock n' roll to vinyl once again with the release of Clean Living; their self-produced and self-released third studio album that's been dubbed a "10/10" by Maximum Rock n Roll, "the best art punk record of the year" by Post Trash, and "a true weirdo masterpiece" by Punk This Week.
