Lawrence Rothman
Lawrence Rothman is a nonbinary singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and one of
contemporary music's most fearless storytellers. Their fifth studio album, Here Lies Love /
Sawdust to Stardust, arrives September 25 via KRO Records and serves as the culmination of a
deeply personal trilogy that began with Good Morning, America (2021) and continued with The
Plow That Broke the Plains (2024). Across these records, Rothman has steadily peeled back
layers of identity, arriving at their most autobiographical and emotionally unguarded work to
date.
Written between Biarritz, France and Nashville, Tennessee, and recorded at Nashville's
legendary Sound Emporium, the new album explores transformation through hardship, tracing
themes of addiction and recovery, love and loss, gender identity, and the lifelong search for
meaning. Produced by Rothman and featuring collaborations with Amanda Shires, Jason Isbell,
Katie Pruitt, Sarah Klang, and Jillian Jacqueline, the record embraces the imperfections and
vulnerability that define the human experience.
For more than two decades, Rothman has built a singular career both as an artist and behind
the scenes, producing and writing with acclaimed musicians including Angel Olsen, Margo
Price, Amanda Shires, Kali Uchis, Girl in Red, Alison Mosshart, Kim Gordon, and Lucinda
Williams. Their genre-defying catalog blends folk, country, rock, and experimental influences
into songs that balance emotional honesty with fearless creativity.
Raised in St. Louis and now based between Los Angeles and Nashville, Rothman continues to
create music rooted in resilience, transformation, and connection. Here Lies Love / Sawdust to
Stardust stands as both a reckoning with the past and a testament to the power of embracing
every imperfect chapter that shapes who we become.
