North Shore Boston’s Cold Engines is a melody-driven rock project led by musician David Drouin, alongside drummer Aaron Zaroulis, Geoff Pilkington, and Adam Saylor.

The group emerged in 2015 and quickly built a prolific catalog, releasing 12 full-length albums and performing over 140 shows a year. They’ve shared stages with artists such as Los Lobos, Blues Traveler, Bobby Keys, Rustic Overtones, Mihali, Soule Monde, Space Junk, and Michael McDonald, among many others.

Before forming Cold Engines, Drouin and Zaroulis toured internationally with The Brew, appearing at major festivals across the U.S., including Mountain Jam, All Good, Gathering of the Vibes, and numerous moe.down events. During that time, they also topped radio charts around the globe. When that chapter ended, they saw Cold Engines as the natural next evolution of their musical journey.

With influences ranging from The Police, Queen, The Smiths, Neil Young, and The Beatles, Cold Engines set out to capture the urgency and catchiness of the golden era of pop, R&B, rock, and jam music. The result is a sound driven by relentless hooks and a deep commitment to songwriting.

To further shape their sound, the band brought in a range of seasoned Boston musicians and collaborators. Guest appearances across their recordings include Amelia Gormley, Eric Reingold, Matt Pynn, Jon Persson, John Funkhouser, Emily Garcia, Alice Austin, Chris Plante, Seth Campbell, Jordan Holt, Adam Ezra, Audrey Ryan, Johnny Bluehorn, Andrew Fogliano, and Ben Alleman, with Tim Phillips (NYC) leading the recording team.

Cold Engines has received significant recognition, winning and earning nominations for Rock Band of the Year in 2016 and 2022, along with nominations for Song of the Year and Album of the Year at the New England Music Awards. They have also been nominated for New Act of the Year and honored across multiple Northeast award platforms.

Today, Cold Engines stands confidently as a songwriting force, delivering ambitious projects ranging from rock operas to full-length trilogies. The world they’ve built continues to expand—bold, unapologetic, and entirely their own.
