An Evening With: Scott Tixier, Leoncarlo Canlas, and Buffi Jacobs

Audiences are invited to experience an extraordinary night of music as three innovative string artists—Scott TixierLeoncarlo Canlas, and Buffi Jacobs—share the stage for An Evening With, a two-night Texas series.

Each artist will perform a solo set using live looping, transforming violin and cello into expansive, immersive soundscapes that bridge classical, jazz, ambient, and experimental worlds. Adding to the evening, special guest media artist Joel Olivas will provide live visuals.

The night will culminate in a collaborative improvisation featuring all three artists performing together — a one-of-a-kind exploration in sound and connection, available only at these shows.

  • Scott Tixier – Award-winning French jazz violinist known for rich tone, fearless improvisation, and genre-spanning collaborations.
  • Leoncarlo Canlas – Texas-based violinist/composer crafting meditative, minimalist layers with luminous texture. (The Polyphonic Spree)
  • Buffi Jacobs – Cellist/composer (The Polyphonic Spree, former cellist of The Hamilton National Tour) building orchestral atmospheres from a single cello.

Scott Tixier is a French-American violinist, composer, and improviser whose work blurs the line between jazz, cinematic soundscapes, and raw emotional storytelling. Born in Montreuil and based in the U.S. for nearly two decades, he has performed and recorded with icons including Stevie Wonder, Hans Zimmer, and Jon Batiste, while forging a singular path as a solo artist. His forthcoming album, Bonfire, debuts September 12, 2025.

Leoncarlo Canlas is a Texas-based violinist and composer whose music blends minimalism, folk influences, and ambient sound design. A regular member of The Polyphonic Spree and a sought-after studio musician, he has become known for his luminous live-looping performances that transform the violin into expansive soundscapes. His work invites listeners into reflective spaces of intimacy and emotional resonance.

Buffi Jacobs is a New York–based cellist and composer whose immersive performances push the boundaries of her instrument. A longtime member of The Polyphonic Spree and former cellist of one of the touring companies of Hamilton, she has recorded with artists including Daniel Hart, Elle King, John Grant, The Swans, H.E.R., and Explosions in the Sky. Through looping, Buffi transforms the cello into a cinematic orchestra of voices, balancing intensity with tenderness to create bold, visual, and deeply engaging experiences.

Joel Olivas is a media artist specializing in immersive and responsive visual environments that transform live performance into multi-sensory experience. His work blends real-time projection, abstract imagery, and light-based design, creating visual landscapes that evolve in dialogue with the music. Collaborating across genres and mediums, Joel’s art deepens the emotional impact of performance and invites audiences into an expanded world of sound and vision.  His work has been exhibited at festivals in Texas including SOLUNA Festival, Array, Oaktopia, SXSW and AURORA Biennial in addition to being the cofounder of multimedia dance organization  “Mixtamotus,” which debuted a projection mapped, immersive dance performance for The Elevator Project at the AT&T Performing Arts Center.
