Tweed Smith & the Internationals is the long-running ensemble led by Houston singer Tweed Smith, a powerhouse vocalist steeped in gospel, jazz, blues, rock, and R&B. Born and raised in Houston, Smith’s musical roots go back to church, where she sang and played tambourine — a foundation she has carried through her entire career. Style Magazine+2Moshows+2

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Smith made music history by becoming the only female member of the band War, contributing lead vocals on three of their albums and co-writing songs. The Big Easy Blues+2Moshows+2 After her time with War, she toured nationally, performed in the touring company of Jesus Christ Superstar, and worked as a backup singer for legends like Sarah Vaughan, Sly Stone, Ringo Starr, Bobby Womack, and Ronnie Wood.
